Bringing Your Puppy Home

Arranging for Pick Up
Once you have placed a deposit on a puppy, you should start planning on when and how you will pick them up or have them transported to you. Puppies should be picked up within one week of the pick up date which is when they turn 8 weeks old. After one week, I charge a boarding fee of $25 a day to hold the puppy. If the puppy is older than 8 weeks old, we will arrange for a date to pick up and I charge $25 for each day past the agreed upon pick up date.

If you are driving yourself to come pick your puppy up, please contact me one week prior to the pick up date to arrange what date and time you will be picking your puppy up if you have not already done so. Please give me about 15-30 minutes notice before you arrive, so that I am prepared when you arrive. I recommend bringing a harness and leash, a crate/travel carrier, paper towels and newspapers/puppy pads. If you have a long drive and are planning on staying the night in a hotel, I recommend doing so and picking the puppy up from me the morning you are checking out. Please be aware that, although the puppies are up to date on their vaccinations, they can still pick up illnesses and parasites from other unvaccinated pets, pet stores, rest stops and other public areas.

If you need ground transportation, I can help arrange this. I know some transporters personally, if available, or I can help find a reliable one. Good Dog recommends Citizen Shipper as a method of finding transportation throughout the United States. Please make sure that the transporter you choose is USDA certified to transport an animal safely. A health certificate is required for travel with a transporter which will cost around $150. The health certificate is only good for 10 days, so I will have to plan the date to have my vet see the puppy accordingly.

Air travel will only be permitted if the puppy is flown in the cabin with a passenger. I am able to meet at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. If you are flying to come pick your puppy up, you will, at the very least, need an airline approved travel carrier and the airline will need a health certificate which I can get from my vet. The cost will be around $150 and the health certificate will only be good for 10 days. Please check for any other requirements from the airline. There is also the option of using a flight nanny. They are hired to pick the puppy up at the airport and sit with them on the plane, so that they are able to fly in the cabin. Please make sure the airline you are using allows a pet spot in cabin and that you are able to reserve the spot. I do not allow my puppies or dogs to be flown in the cargo hold.
